Herring Island Gallery

The Herring Island Gallery is the converted scout hall. The fireplace and the marks on the floor are the give-away signs – the architecture is now inspired by the place – a gift to the arts by  the Myer Foundation and the genius of architect, Greg Burgess.

Australia Day Weekend 24th to  26th January

artists in the courtyardAustralia Day 2008 hosted a continuous program of arts events and 2009 is planned along similar lines:

During the day artists work in the courtyard in ceramics, sculpture  and painting.

At 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm there were tours of Herring Island and the permanent collection run by Friends of Herring Island. Intending participants met in front of the gallery before the tour.

We had perfect weather - breaking our reputation as rain makers - and lots of visitors enjoyed the day and the art.

Herring Island Summer Arts Festival thanks the Australia Day Committee (Victoria) for their support for our Australia Day program.
